One too many "g"s sensei! But thank you anyway. Students may also be interested in Pailou (牌樓) aka Paifang (牌坊), which have some similarities to Torii but look quite different.

Looking at Paifang really reminds me of 守礼の門 in Okinawa. Historically they were more heavily influenced by China so that's no wonder, I guess. Also the gate in China Town of Yokohama looks a lot like Paifang, too, naturally.

Okinawa was actually a de facto tribute state of both China and Japan at the same time during the Ming-Qing / Edo(江戸) periods. If only their current territorial disputes could be solved so easily! I kid; it's actually quite sad.
